Victorian Obsidian Playing Cards
Victorian Playing Cards is the result of the awesome collaboration between the talented artist Maciej Frolow (GALAETH) and Max Playing Cards. The wise combination between the most advanced 3D technologies and the deepest tradition in playing cards have produced this classic, but unique deck of cards.
THE VICTORIAN OBSIDIAN DECK is composed of fifty-two cards and two jokers, replacing the traditional court cards by 3D Victorian inspired elements (scepter for the king, rose for the queen and pistol for the jack) are depicted on black backgrounds with an intricate pattern.

- High-quality printing on cards, 310 gsm premium German linen cardstock

I am merely a collector and therefore have not opened the box to view the cards in person. That being said, the tuck box is beautifully designed! I really enjoy the colors and foiling. It's quite striking. From the images of the cards online, I really love the color contrast! Everything has an antique-like appearance.
This was one of my first, honest-to-goodness disappointments from a deck. Let me start by saying that I don't hate this deck. I love the Victorian stylization and ideas. The idea amd design is clearly there, but the implementation is just not matching in quality. The tuck doesn't really feel nearly as good as it could and the overall embossing, inking/foiling is kind of lackluster in person, almost evoking something akin to tackiness or cheap quality. The cards, again, show loving design, but don't feel particularly amazing in the hand and handle poorly out of the box. I want to love this deck, especially as I love the Victorian themes of many decks, but it just seems to fall flat. It didn't help either that my particular deck of cards was poorly cut resulting in a couple of cards with notches hewn out of them after small slivers of card stock were clearly cut incorrectly.
