The Planets: Jupiter Playing Cards USPCC
The Planets is a collection of card decks representing the planets in our solar system, starting closest to the sun and moving outwards into the surrounding universe. The fifth deck of this series is Jupiter, featuring one-eyed bull-like creatures. This is the most luxurious Vanda deck series to date, with tuckbox features that include red holographic foil, white foil, interior foiling, and embossing.
From the artist:
"Jupiter was named after god of the sky and thunder and king of the gods in Ancient Roman religion and mythology. The Romans regarded Jupiter as the equivalent of Greek Zeus.
"So, I want this creature to be strong and powerful. There's a story in Greek mythology when Zeus metamorphosed into a beautiful white bull. I took this as an inspiration. But I didn't want just to draw an ordinary bull, more like a creature that resembles a bull. The crown is big and beautiful, because Jupiter is king of the gods. Now, the one eye. On the actual planet, the Jupiter's great red eye (or the red spot) was my inspiration. So, just like the planet has one big eye, so do the creatures living in it. I think it's nice symbolism."

This deck stands out first with the amazing deep purple color that makes it pop when compared to other decks. The details of the planet were not spared, and included the famous "Red Spot" that Jupiter is known for. The court cards are made up of one-eyed Centaurs. I think it's clever to use Centaurs to represent the real centaurs (small solar system bodies between Jupiter and Neptune). I love how the Centaurs are depicted in a way that fits the theme of the deck as well as the court cards themselves.
I'll try to generalize this as best I can, for the sake of touching on points common to all of the planets decks, as there is a lot of good to say about each individual deck, but it would take too much time to do it in that fashion. Each deck in the Planet series is completely custom, featuring one way backs, completely custom court cards and spot cards (all custom fonts and pips), and two non-identical jokers. One joker features some sort of creature that might have come from that planet, the other joker features some character or artwork that is representative of that planet. Each deck also includes an advertisement card and a "solar system" card which indicates where that particular planet is in the solar system. The Pluto deck is the one "odd man out", as it's smaller than the rest and comes enclosed in a magnetic hardened plastic case. The Pluto cards are a "mini" deck which, as of this writing, are NOT included if you are purchasing the Planets series all together as a set from this website. Also of note is that the faces of the Pluto cards have a mirror type finish, but do not include the aforementioned advertisement card of solar system card. These decks look particularly attractive as a set, displayed in order on your bookshelf. When all is said and done, these are fantastic cards, and a true collector would want to have every deck from this series in their collection.
The bright and bold color of this deck really stands out. Great art work throughout the deck. Very powerful feeling deck for sure.
