Mermaid Queen Playing Cards
Enchanting mermaids and fierce sea-gods are beautifully rendered to capture the allure of this mythical world in this unique deck of cards. The designer, John Littleboy of Artiphany, conjures visual magic in each suit with a story told in pictures.
I'm a big fan of transformation decks, so I was surprised I'd never come across the work of John Littleboy before, and immediately had to order these when I saw they were available here. But Littleboy has produced several great transformation decks, including Pack of Dogs, Kitten Club, Mermaid Queen, and Bag of Bones. The number cards are my favourites, because the pips have cleverly been incorporated into a larger art piece, in the case of this deck (Mermaid Queen), each suit pip represents something different, e.g. diamonds = shark fins, spades = fish. Each suit has a progressive image, so they don't feel totally unique from each other, but more like a series of consecutive snap shots. Along with the Kitten Club deck, this deck is my favourite of the Littleboy decks.
