Donny Brook Playing Cards USPCC
Donny Brook Playing Cards
Hello, my name is CJ Ocampo, and I have been designing this deck for quite awhile now. I am so excited to share this project with you.
Design
The back is hand drawn with an opaque white pen on an 8.5 x 11" matte black construction paper and then digitally remastered into a vector. I have created multiple designs with different layouts but I believe this one hits home. This design is one way so if you turn it around it changes to a whole new look.
The Box
I wanted to design the box like no one has ever seen. Typically with card boxes you have the brand name in front and design on the back. With my tuck you will get an all-over printed box that was hand drawn and created into a vector. On the bottom, you will notice the DBPC graffiti signature.
The Ace of Spades
I think I created 30+ different drafts of the Spade, but none looked exactly right. I then decided I should try not to fill the whole negative space with my drawings but, rather, to leave some out. This way it gives the depth to the design. Just the look I wanted!
Name
Some of you may ask yourself what or who is a Donny Brook? Actually, it's a place in Dublin. Donnybrook was a notoriously disorderly event, held annually from 1204 until the middle of the 19th century. Now Donnybrook is considered to be an upscale supermarket. I wanted to brand these cards as something chaotic back in the day, but now they've been revamped to something more "high end."
I know you'll enjoy this very creative deck!
