Card Description

Called the wish card, The Nine of Cups illustrates our fulfilled desires. The gap in the Eight of Cups is filled and the figure sits with confidence and satisfaction. Whenever you accomplish something great, remember to enjoy it.

Point 1 – FIGURE

The figure in the Nine of Cups is the polar opposite to the one in the Eight of Cups. While the previous figure walked away from his cups, this one proudly displays them. He sits on a bench with his arms crossed, exuding confidence. He embraces the cups given to him, without a hint of unsatisfaction.

Point 2 – RED HAT

The red hat that the figure wears is a symbol for his passion and vitality. It is a reiteration of The Fool’s red plume and the many other red hats that pop up in Tarot.

Point 3 – WHITE ROBE

The white robe illustrates the figure’s purity. Due to the figure’s stance and the trophy-like display of his cups, the card could be interpreted and a depiction of pride. The figure’s robe however complicates that interpretation and suggests that the figure has a healthy amount of confidence.

Point 4 – CUPS

The alignment of the cups appears to be a reiteration of the Four of Cups. While in that card, an additional cup was required to perfect the alignment, in this card, no additional cup is needed. All nine of them stand in a symmetric semi-circle, raised as if in a toast.

Tarot Reading

Upright

An Upright Nine of Cups illustrates fulfillment and satisfaction. Often called the wish card, an Upright Nine of Cups suggests that all of your hopes will come to light. It is a celebration of what you have achieved and a veneration of yourself. Indulge in the luxuries presented to you and take pride in the work of your hands.

Reverse

A Reverse Nine of Cups comes at a time of great accomplishment. Despite displaying all of your material gains, something is still gnawing at you. A Reverse Nine of Cups suggests that you look within you to find that complete satisfaction than an Upright Nine of Cups promises.
