Sea Creatures Playing Cards Deck USPCC

$17.99 USD
 per

Our Sea Creatures deck features twelve sea beasts illustrated as the court cards, a custom Ace of Spades, and a joker diptych of an iconic battle between a sperm whale & a giant squid. Aesthetically, this deck is meant to invoke the period art of scrimshaw.

-Scrimshaw is the name given to scrollwork, engravings, and carvings done traditionally upon whale bone.

The sea holds countless secrets. Seafarers gave birth to myths, and sea creatures inspired many of them. Creatures chosen for this collection are tied to the lives and legends of the men and women who forged their own adventure upon the sea. Delve to the depths and explore the world beneath in this select illustrated anthology.

All four decks (Pirates, Sea Creatures, Master Deck's East and West) align to create an epic sea battle. Check my store for the other decks or set.

The deck that made me a collector

This deck is quite possibly the favorite in my collection. Not only is that due to the fact that it largely is responsible for my interest in playing card collecting to begin with, but it is one of the most gorgeous, meticulously designed deck of cards I own. When I first saw this deck, I did not yet realize the scope of the collectible playing card decks hobby. I have a soft spot for the sea, and for 18th and 19th century maritime culture, so when I saw the beautiful artwork of sea creatures done in a scrimshaw aesthetic, I knew I had to have them. After getting them, when I first opened that tuckbox, I was blown away by the copper interior. While the illustrations on the exterior of the tuckbox are superb, the bright, gleaming copper on the inside in contrast sort of blew me away. It is almost a eastern design aesthetic of simplicity on the outside, beauty on the inside.

For the cards themselves, I was not only pleased to see that the artwork looked better up-close than it did in the pictures I saw, but I also was amazed at just how nice the cards themselves felt in my hand and handled. The stock is nice and sturdy but not too thick, and the finish allows them to glide against each other smoothly. With new knowledge I have since gained since aquiring these cards, I believe these use the standard USPCC "casino" stock (Bee) stock with the "cambric" embossed finish, but with the Q1 quality control process.

After this deck, I wanted more. I became a collector.
