Inferno Playing Cards

Available in 2 editions, not sold as a set

Cocito is the frozen lake at the bottom of Dante’s Inferno, where he puts the worst possible sinners for his ethics: the traitors.  That’s why, at the center of the back, you can see spikes of ice, replacing the flames.

The Jokers in Inferno - Cocito show Lucifer, as described by Dante: a demon with three faces munching with his three mouths the three worst sinners (according to Dante): Judas, Brutus and Cassius.

Dite is the city in hell where sinners are punished with flames and extreme temperatures, therefore we designed the tuck case and the back with red glowing colors and foil.

The center of the back is a circle containing twisted flames, with the famous quote: “Lasciate ogni speranza voi ch’entrate” (Abandon all hope, you who enter here).

The court cards and the aces represent characters that Dante and Virgilio (the Jokers in Inferno - Dite), his guide, meet during the journey, until they find Lucifer (the Joker in Inferno - Cocito).

The red cards show sinner who are damned for passion-related sins, while the black cards portray sinners who used their intelligence to betray and deceive (Dante places the latter much deeper in hell).

Here you can find a list of all the characters: Dante, Virgilio, Paolo e Francesca, Ulisse e Diomede, Cerbero, Erinni, Minosse, Semiramide, Minotauro, Malacoda, Taide, Conte Ugolino, Pluto, Cleopatra, Gerione, Arpie, Giasone.

2017 Release.

Pip Box for the Win!

I wasn't familiar with this deck (Dite) when I received it in this month's Pip Box, but boy am I glad I own it now! To call artist Stefano Protino an "expert" at designing decks would be an understatement. This deck is NUTS! The artwork is among the best I've ever seen. The connecting Jokers which produce a complete image is such thoughtful design work. The embossing on the tuck box is super clean and tasteful. I seriously can't get over how incredible this deck is. You absolutely must have this deck in your collection!

Cocito

I’m a big fan of Dante’s Inferno and when I got these cards (Cocito. The blue one) they were stunning! Very beautiful designs from the court cards to the number cards. The cards have an aged and worn look to them (think of old parchment) and feel great in you hand. Definitely recommend if you like Dante’s Inferno, or if you’re a collector.
