The Iron Horse Black Ink Playing Cards

The Iron Horse premium playing cards has some of the most intricate details I've ever designed. This is a fully custom Illustrated deck of playing cards that has been painstakingly scrutinized on every level. 

One of the most notable features of this project is that this deck is inspired by a short story written by my good friend Ricky Cassford. His ability to creatively tell an epic story is truly awe-inspiring. PDF of story available on request.

Playing Cards

  • Printed by the Legends Playing Card Co.
  • 54 completely custom playing cards. Each court, Ace and Joker cards will have original illustrations
  • The Cards will be printed on the Classic Finish (which is the highest quality card stock that Legends Playing Card Co. has to offer)

Tuck Case

  • Diptych art for the front and back of the tuck case
  • Hot Stamp Foiling - 2 foils will be used (Silver and Black)
  • The Tuck box material will be the same material as my previous project, Titans Playing Cards.

It's a Jody Eklund deck, need we say more?

Jody Eklund is famous for his historical and classical designs, with his unique black ink drawing style. The tuck box has diptych art for the front and back, with silver and black foil completing a very classy look.

This particular deck was inspired by a short story called "The Attempt on the Iron Horse", written by Jody's friend Ricky Cassford. The historical setting that reflects the era after the completion of the transcontinental railroad (celebrated in his original Golden Spike deck), with a similar charm, although now it's a fictional story that forms the basis of the story-line and characters reflected on the cards.

Characters form the story are in the deck, e.g. the Ace of Spades is gang leader Frank Hokey. The good guys are pictured on some of the red-suited cards, including Sheriff Cletus McCoy as the King of Diamonds, and Bounty Hunter Baron Templeton as the King of Hearts. The Jokers also feature a diptych image, highlighting a train robbery in progress, depicted with Jody's signature black and white ink styled drawings.

This is one of Jody Eklund's finest work yet. Amazing detailed back, Ace of Spades. Incredible diptych jokers which can double as a movie poster. Fascinating courts that capture the essence of the characters. Please do yourself a favor and grab the PDF short story as well. It'll complete the story that the cards are showing. You almost want to grab 2 decks just to show off the complete picture.

Handling is great with LPCC printing this deck. but the courts will take some getting used to for gameplay. But that's ok. Jody's work should be admired.
